The National Shooting Sports Foundation reports that 74 percent of U.S. gun retailers saw an increase in female patrons from 2011 to 2012, with women making up 20 percent of sales. Since 2005, female gun ownership in America has doubled in the $8 billion industry. In contrast, a General Social Survey shows that the number of Americans who live in a household with at least one gun is lower than it’s ever been, with 32 percent either owning a firearm themselves or living with someone who does. In the late 1970s and early ’80s, roughly half of Americans told researchers there was a gun in their household.
Editor’s note: On May 20, the city of Las Vegas said it had completed additional testing on its six pools and found no evidence of staph or MRSA bacteria. According to the city, it tests the water in its pools a minimum of twice a day and normally many more times than that to ensure the safety of its patrons.
Most people go indoors to escape the Las Vegas triple-digit temperatures. Some people go indoors to exercise in triple digits. They are devotees of hot yoga and hot Pilates, where the room temperature is cranked up, and the humidity is increased.
Grand Canyon National Park is visited by nearly 5 million people a year, and not surprisingly, many complain that it’s crowded. But you don’t have to endure that because the vast majority of those millions gaze upon the canyon from its South Rim. Those who choose the North Rim get much more elbow room.
We’re lucky to have two TPC courses in Las Vegas. The shining star, however, is TPC Summerlin, 1700 Village Center Circle, home to the just-finished Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospital for Children Open.
