■ LAKE MEAD — Largemouth bass spawning has begun in the lake, as one angler discovered when he caught a bass weighing more than 5 pounds while fishing near Swallow Cove. After weighing and measuring the fish, he released it where he caught it so the fish could finish its spawn. Some smaller stripers have been taken in the Vegas Wash area on anchovies and live shad, but shad are tough to come by right now.

Mountain West, ESPN agree on seven-year television pact

The Mountain West and ESPN have reached agreement on a seven-year deal that will give the network rights to televise some football and men’s basketball games, plus all Boise State home football games. Terms of the deal were not released Wednesday.
