SLS rebranding to Grand Sahara Resort?

SLS Las Vegas used to be the Sahara, which opened in 1952 as a $5.5 million, Moroccan-themed resort 1959: A convention hall on the north side of the Sahara is added as well as a 127-foot sign. 1959: Comedian Don Rickles makes the first of many appearances in the Casbar lounge. George Burns also appears in the Casbar lounge. 1961: Del Webb acquires the Sahara through a stock transaction involving 1.5 million shares in the Del Webb Corp. valued at about $12 million. The Sahara adds a $5 million, 24-story skyscraper with 400 rooms, bringing its total to more than 800. 1964: Stan Irwin, the Sahara entertainment director, brings The Beatles to Las Vegas. They perform at the Las Vegas Convention Center and stay at the hotel. 1982: Paul Lowden buys the Sahara for $50 million. 1988: A 26-story tower is added, bringing the room total to 1,500. Lowden expands the casino area and opens a new race and sports book. 1995: Bill Bennett buys the Sahara for $193 million, including 39 acres west of the Strip. 2007: SBE Entertainment and Stockbridge Real Estate buy the Sahara for between $300 million and $400 million. 2011: The Sahara closes 2017: The Meruelo Group announces it had agreed to buy the struggling SLS Las Vegas from Stockbridge Capital Group

Former Las Vegan and auto racing crew chief George Bignotti to be honored

George Bignotti will be inducted into the West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame on June 21. The former Las Vegas resident raced stock cars but made his name as an Indianapolis 500 crew chief. He served as crew chief on seven Indy 500 winners, including twice with A.J. Foyt and Al Unser. He also was head mechanic on Indy winners driven by Graham Hill, Gordon Johncock and Tom Sneva. Bignotti was an avid golfer and lived on Canyon Gate golf course in Las Vegas. He was 97 when he died in 2013. “As far as I’m concerned, he was the greatest mechanic that ever turned a wrench on an Indy car.”

Las Vegas police say deadly shootings gang, drug related

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s gang unit are working with homicide detectives after a man was shot and killed Sunday night in central Las Vegas. Two shootings occurred only a block from each other. The first shooting took place around 8:40 p.m. on Van Patten Street and might have involved narcotics, police said. The man shot was taken to the hospital, where he died in surgery. Two hours later, while investigating the first shooting, police heard gunfire and found another man wounded on the 2500 block of Sherwood Street. He is expected to survive. Police say the shootings appear to be related. The suspect or suspects remain on the loose.

However, you’ll still have to pay UberEats’ $4.99 booking fee to have those McNuggets delivered to your doorstep. McDonald’s has sold 677,202 Chicken McNuggets through UberEats since the app launched in Las Vegas in September 2016, company officials said.
