First Friday arts festival turns 12

In honor of First Friday Las Vegas’ 12th anniversary in October, the art and culture festival will celebrate mythology, time and the number 12 in shows currated by Las Vegas cultural icon Brian Paco Alvarez.

Literary Las Vegas: Renee Jean

Local author Renee Jean’s debut novel “Never Give Up” shares the story of Akayklia “Kaylie” Reynolds, a young woman who had it all: a loving fiance, a passion for dance and a star solo in a big summer recital. A night of celebration with her fiance turns tragic when a gunman hijacks her cab and takes her on a ride that almost ends her life.

Section of Pecos Road receives ceremonial title for Cesar Chavez

On Sept. 20, a section of Pecos Road between Charleston Boulevard and Owens Avenue was ceremonially named Camino Cesar Chavez. Pecos will remain the name on maps, but a brown sign declaring the ceremonial name was added below the traditional green street name sign.
