Sixteen cadets were recognized by the Dean of the Faculty at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., for academic prowess during the fall 2013 semester at the Dean’s Aces Dinner Jan. 28. Cadet 2nd Class Andrew Chaves of Las Vegas was one of those honored. Chaves also earned Mountain West Scholar Athlete of the year as a member of the Air Force Academy baseball team. He is a 2011 graduate of Basic High School, where he was co-valedictorian and lettered in football and baseball. He is the son of Frank and Yvonne Chaves of Las Vegas.
In return for Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada’s donation of a truck, the Culinary Academy of Las Vegas agreed to provide classes for Catholic Charities clients, homeless people trying to get back on their feet.
