The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services reports that alcohol-related disorders cut across gender, race and other demographic lines. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism says that 17.6 million Americans — or about one in every 12 adults — abuse alcohol or are alcohol-dependent.
