The Class 4A girls state golf tournament begins Monday with plenty of intrigue. Coronado, which has won the last four titles, did not qualify for state (three individuals qualified) Centennial captured the Mountain Region title, and McKenzi Hall won individually. Riana Mission’s individual title helped Clark win the Desert Region championship. It’s anyone’s game, and Nevada will have a new state champion for the first time since 2013. The tournament begins Monday at Dayton Valley, and concludes Tuesday.

Three-time Olympic gold medalist Kerry Walsh Jennings and husband Casey are bringing pro beach volleyball back to Las Vegas this week. Kerri Walsh Jennings Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominee Todd Rundgren has a connection to the Las Vegas 51s — his son Rex played shortstop for the Pacific Coast League team in 2008. Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw and Sierra Vista High’s Nick Kingham have something in common: Both served up a home run ball to pitcher Brandon Woodruff of the Milwaukee Brewers. Baseball Hall of Fame manager Tony La Russa, whose Animal Rescue Foundation will host its annual fund raiser in Las Vegas, recalled his last game as a major league player in which he scored the winning run without coming to bat.
