Human services administration may have violated ethics rule

Clark County’s new human services administrator… may have violated a state ethics law. When Tim Burch was director of the Department of Family Services in 2016… he recommended a no-bid contract with SPIRIT, Inc. Four months later, Burch quit the county to become SPIRIT’s CEO. A state ethics law forbids government officials from working for companies… if the officials helped them get a contract. Burch said he was not aware of the law.

Cassi Davis was diagnosed with anxiety and depression after the birth of her second child. After seeking help and support, she felt that there wasn’t enough for support for those living day in and day out for those with mood disorders. She created the Crush Run, set for Sept. 22, to raise money for the Anxiety and Depression Association of America and bring together a community of people who live with the same conditions she does. Brendan Gaughan’s debut as a NASCAR on NBC pit road reporter was a big hit. The semi-retired Las Vegas racer was glib and informative, predicting key events in the NASCAR Xfinity race at Iowa Speedway before they happened. Gaughan, who continues to race in selected NASCAR Cup Series races, said he will reprise his pit road duties at the Aug. 11 Xfinity race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. In other news, NASCAR superstars Kevin Harvick and Martin Truex Jr. will sign autographs at the Sept. 13 K&N Series West race at the Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway kicking off LVMS’ second NASCAR Weekend. “Gone Racin’,” a weekly show about auto racing featuring Brendan Gaughan and Las Vegas Motor Speedway public relations director Jeff Motley, has debuted on the VSiN sports gambling network based at South Point.
