Taxpayer-funded LVCVA boss negotiating exit pay despite criminal investigation

CEO Rossi Ralenkotter is the third-highest-paid public official in the state He has a pay and benefits package valued at $863,000 annually. Ralenkotter does not have an employment contract He announced his retirement in mid June, amid a scandal over airline gift cards LVCVA bought $90,000 in Southwest Airline gift cards between 2012 and 2017. Now auditors can’t account for more than $50,000 of the cards. Ralenkotter and his family used $16,207 in gift cards on 56 trips. Brig Lawson, the senior director of business partnerships, was responsible for buying and distributing the cards. He recently resigned. Ralenkotter’s retirement settlement package could cost taxpayers thousands of dollars.

Weather is factor in deadly rollover

An early Tuesday morning rollover accident in North Las Vegas left a 48-year-old man dead. A Chevrolet pickup was heading west on the 215 Beltway when it left the highway and crashed near Losee Road. A Nevada Highway Patrol spokesman said weather might have played a role in the crash. The driver, who was the only person in the truck, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected.

Las Vegas Strip robbery spree ends in casino parking garage

A pair of robbery suspects led police to three parking garages around the Las Vegas Strip before they were caught early Tuesday morning.
The first robbery took place at the Treasure Island parking garage, where two suspects “battered” a 71-year-old, her adult daughter and a juvenile girl.
The suspects, one of who was armed, next demanded money and property from a pair of 18-year-olds at Fashion Show mall. The suspects were later spotted at the SLS Las Vegas parking garage. They tried to get away by ramming a patrol car with their vehicle. That effort failed and they were taken into custody.

Man stabbed in head in downtown Las Vegas

A man in his 50s was stabbed in the head early Thursday morning in downtown Las Vegas. The suspect is his girlfriend’s father. The man said he and his girlfriend were walking near the Golden Nugget when the incident occurred, around 5 a.m. The man and his girlfriend contacted casino security and he was taken to a hospital with a laceration to his head. Police are not sure of a motive and are looking for the suspect, whose age is unknown.

A man was shot and killed Thursday morning in North Las Vegas. A police spokesman said a man was taken to a hospital where he died. NLV police blocked off a portion of North Daley Street near East Carey Avenue.

House party gunfire wounds two

Two men were hospitalized after being shotTuesday night at a house party in east Las Vegas. The shooting occurred about 10:50 p.m. at a home on Buck Island Street, near Owens Avenue and Sloan Lane. Police blocked off the neighborhood around Owens Avenue and Sloan Lane while they investigated. Police said all suspects are in custody. The two men ended up at UMC with wounds to their legs, Both were expected to survive their injuries.

Dog flu spreads to Nevada, expected to hit Las Vegas soon

The dog flu is coming, Las Vegas veterinarians say. A new-to-the-U.S. strain of the canine influenza, H3N2, has been detected in Northern Nevada for the first time, according to DogFlu.com. There have been 52 cases confirmed this month. Vets usually only recommend the vaccine for dogs traveling to an area where the flu was present. But this year, many vets are telling pet owners it’s better to be safe than sorry. Local veterinarians say they haven’t seen either flu strain in Las Vegas yet, but warn it’s just a matter of time. Symptoms resemble kennel cough, or even the human flu: coughing, sneezing, fever and lethargy. And like the human flu, dog flu can kill. ‘Floor-to-ceiling’ renovations planned for Fremont Street Experience

The city of Las Vegas will request up to $9.5 million from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority to fund capital improvements at the Fremont Street Experience.
