Golden Nugget job fair draws 800 applicants

The Golden Nugget appears to offer better odds than the nearby Plaza.

At a job fair the downtown property staged Monday, management estimated that the lure of 150 openings brought 800 applicants, including 300 that were interviewed and other 500 that filled out application cards and will be called later. Employment manager Renee Murphy said people also took cards with them rather than stand in long lines, but she did not estimate how many.

The Golden Nugget did not track how many people filled out online applications.

By contrast, the job fair that the Plaza spanned two weeks a month ago drew 29,000 applications, according to management, counting both in person and online. This was for 800 positions, with as many as 300 reserved for people who worked there prior to its closing for remodeling.

So at the Golden Nugget, the approximate odds of getting a job were about 1-in-5 while it was about 1-in-36 at the Plaza.
