Henderson Hostess bakery sold in $355 million deal
That lonely Henderson Hostess bakery has a new owner.
On Friday, Flowers Foods purchased the bakery at 501 Conestoga Way as part of package deal for $355 million. The package includes a “significant amount of real estate,” said David Rush, senior managing director of FTI Consulting.
In all, 20 bakeries, 36 distribution centers and the Wonder, Merita, Home Pride, Butternut and Nature’s Pride brands were sold to Flowers by Old HB Inc., formerly Hostess Brands.
The acquisition of the Hostess bread assets strengthens Flowers Foods’ position as the second-largest baker in the U.S. behind Bimbo Bakeries USA.
“These assets fit very well with our strategy to grow our fresh baked foods through market expansion and acquisitions,” Allen Shiver, president and chief executive officer, said in a statement. “Consumers across much of the country can expect to see these well-known and loved bread brands returning to store shelves over time.”
No word yet on whether or not the Henderson plant actually will ever reopen.
