Insert Coin(s) closes, but owner hopes to reopen

Insert Coin(s), the boutique video-game nightclub/lounge in downtown Las Vegas, has closed after four years because of financial problems but the owner hopes he can reopen it one day.

“We don’t have the financial backing of large groups,” owner Christopher LaPorte said Friday. “I plan to have it return as soon as possible.”

Insert Coin(s) at 512 Fremont St. was one of the early pioneers in the re-birth of that downtown area when it opened four years ago.

Downtown Project, Tony Hsieh’s $350 million initiative to redevelop downtown, is not an investor.

“Never did. Never will,” LaPorte said.

The lounge drew video game and music fans and featured dozens of guest DJs.
