KTUD-TV, Channel 25, expected to leave Las Vegas airwaves

Las Vegas no longer has Vegas TV.

KTUD-TV, Channel 25, was expected to leave the Las Vegas airwaves at 11:59 p.m. Thursday.

The independent station, which aired reruns of “Community,” “King of the Hill” and “Law &Order: Special Victims Unit,” was jointly owned since 2004 by Greenspun Broadcasting and Catalyst Investors, a New York-based private equity fund.

The station filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February 2010.

Officials from the independent station declined comment on the reasons for its closing. KTUD could be seen on Cox cable channel 14 and over the air and on various satellite providers on Channel 25.

The low-powered station signed on the air in 1999 as KCNG to carry programming from the now-defunct United Paramount Network. It was renamed KTUD the following year.

In 2006, when UPN and The WB merged to form The CW, KTUD became an independent station, rebranding itself as “Vegas TV” and relying almost entirely on syndicated programming and infomercials.

Over the years, both KLAS-TV, Channel 8, and KSNV-TV, Channel 3, produced newscasts for KTUD. The station most recently aired “News 3 Live at Five” and a 9 p.m. newscast, “News 3 on Vegas TV,” as well as reruns of “Ralston Reports.”
