Lazy Dog settling in Summerlin

Lazy Dog Restaurant &Bar will be opening its first location outside of California at Downtown Summerlin in early 2015.

“We started Lazy Dog with ambitions to be a neighborhood restaurant where parents could take the kids but also sit back and enjoy a great meal and cold beer,” said Chris Simms, founder and CEO. “It’s been incredible to see how communities have embraced that concept, and after 11 years it felt like the right time to grow beyond our California home. We’re excited to join the Summerlin community and begin this next adventure for Lazy Dog.”

The restaurant, which has locations throughout Southern California and the Bay Area, was inspired by the hospitality and laid-back atmosphere of the Rocky Mountain town where Simms and his family spend part of the year. Lazy Dog originally opened in the Huntington Beach area in 2003 and quickly became a favorite among Southern California residents looking for a casual meal, an easy date night or a family affair that, with its pooch-friendly patio, included the dog.

Executive Chef Gabriel Caliendo, who oversees the menus at all restaurants in the Lazy Dog family, aims to elevate classic dishes and offer lighter meal options and shareable plates.

To complement the eclectic menu, Lazy Dog’s full bar program features hand-crafted cocktails for all imbibers, whether it be a hand-shaken martini, one of their lightened up “clean cocktails” such as the coconut mojito, or a classic Hair of the Dog Bloody Mary that pairs perfectly with sweet and savory weekend brunch offerings. In addition to their cocktails, Lazy Dog has an extensive craft brew selection that includes Lazy Dog’s own offerings, developed by Chef Gabe, an expert home brewer, in collaboration with Golden Road Brewing, as well as brews from local craft breweries.

The design of the Summerlin restaurant will showcase rustic decor and accents such as cozy fireplaces and a massive chandelier crafted from Aspen logs, generous use of real ledge stone, and fabric- and leather-lined booths and chairs. Artwork and playful touches inspired by man’s best friend will be woven throughout the restaurant and patio. Both the bar and exterior patio will be outfitted with multiple flat-screen TVs for guests to cheer on their favorite sports teams while enjoying Happy Hour.

Once construction is completed, Lazy Dog Restaurant &Bar will open in the Downtown Summerlin development at 1725 Festival Plaza Drive, #A2, in Las Vegas. It will be open for lunch and dinner daily, as well as brunch on Saturday and Sunday.

“We are excited to be reopening this branch,” said Wayne Tew, president and CEO of CCCU. “This is a great sign of our company’s strength and the growth in the economy.”

If the city of Las Vegas doesn’t move ahead with a proposed soccer stadium deal, at least five city officials — including two city council members — can say they enjoyed a trip to Portland, Ore., to watch a Major League Soccer game. The city paid for Councilmen Steve Ross and Ricki Barlow to fly to Portland and back and also for their lodging. Same for City Manager Elizabeth Fretwell and economic development official William Arent. The city only paid for official Flinn Fagg’s rental car. Total bill to taxpayers: $2,809.05.
