Volaris, a 5-year-old low-fare carrier, will start daily service today between Guadalajara, Mexico, and McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas.
In a joint statement, Volaris and McCarran officials projected that visitors arriving on Volaris will generate more than $32 million annually in nongaming economic impact and support between 240 to 320 local jobs, either directly or indirectly, during the airline's first year of operation at McCarran.
Volaris operates 48 routes connecting nearly two dozen cities in Mexico and offers U.S. service to airports in Chicago (Midway); Los Angeles; San Francisco; Fresno, Calif.; and San Jose, Calif. Volaris also has a code-share partnership with Southwest Airlines, McCarran's busiest carrier, that lets Southwest customers book flights to Mexico using both carriers.
