Realtors Association responds to discrimination complaint
A local trade group is striking back at allegations of discrimination in a lawsuit.
Heidi Kasama, president of the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors, said in a written statement that the organization doesn’t allow unfair treatment of its employees.
“Ms. Wilson’s allegations are unfounded. The Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors is committed to diversity and prohibits discrimination. The association is confident that its commitment to diversity and equal employment opportunity will be shown through the legal process,” Kasama said.
Kasama was answering charges in a lawsuit filed by the association’s former chief financial officer, Nedra Wilson, on Monday in U.S. District Court.
Wilson, who is black, has accused the 11,000-member trade group of treating her and other black employees differently than white employees. According to the lawsuit, Wilson was fired after she did not “correctly and timely input cash receipts.” Yet, Wilson’s subordinate, who was not black, provided the bad information and was not fired, she said in court papers.
