Spirit Airlines adds nonstop daily service from LV-Houston
August 28, 2012 - 1:47 pm
After a lull in recent months, Spirit Airlines has added a new local route.
Starting Oct. 4, the airline noted for low fares but extra charges for almost everything but the seat will start a daily nonstop roundtrip flight between McCarran International Airport and Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport. In doing so, Spirit will go cockpit-to-cockpit with United Airlines, which has 46 roundtrips a week on its current schedule, and Southwest Airlines, with 29 flights a week to Houston Hobby Airport.
Two years ago, Spirit's weekly flight count stood at just 28. After adding several cities, it had soared to 111 as of one year ago and 147 by December. Currently, the count stands at 153, as the frenetic pace of expansion at McCarran leveled.
Spirit also will launch service between Houston and Chicago O'Hare International Airport.
