2 students arrested after bringing gun, ammo to Gibson Middle School and threatening staff member
Two students were arrested Friday after a gun and ammunition were brought to Gibson Middle School and a staff member was threatened, authorities confirmed Tuesday.
It’s unclear what the threat entailed, Clark County School District police Capt. Ken Young said, adding that there were no injuries and that no students were threatened.
One of the students brought a handgun in his backpack and the other brought the ammunition, Young said. The 13- and 14-year-old boys were taken into custody at the 3900 W. Washington Ave. school Friday afternoon and booked into the county Juvenile Detention Center.
Just hours earlier on Friday, a 12-year-old boy was also arrested after he brought a loaded gun to Saville Middle School, though no threats were made.
“We tell parents to be nosy in their kids’ lives,” Young said, “to know about their friends and their internet activity.”
Students who bring guns to school can face jail time or probation, and their parents can be fined, depending on the child’s history.
The Gibson arrest was the 11th time a CCSD student has been arrested for bringing a gun to campus this school year, Young said.
