Authorities searching for walkaway inmate from Jean Conservation Camp

A minimum-security inmate walked away from Jean Conservation Camp late Monday and is at large, the Nevada Department of Corrections announced Tuesday.

The inmate, April Barth, 30, escaped about 7 p.m. from the camp, which is about 15 miles south of the Las Vegas Valley. Barth began serving her 12 to 48-month sentence at the camp Sept. 13 after an attempted grand larceny conviction.

She is described as 5 foot 1, 135 pounds with green eyes and brown, shoulder-length hair. She has a tattoo with the letter “A” and three dots on her right hand, as well as a tattoo of her name, “April,” on her left arm, along with other tattoos. She is also known to paint her eyebrows, officials said.

Barth was last seen in the parking lot of the Gold Strike casino, 1 Main St. in Jean, about a mile from the camp. She was wearing blue pants, a blue button-down shirt and a dark blue sweater with white tennis shoes.

Anyone who sees Barth or knows her whereabouts is asked to call 911.
