Child pornography suspect involved in shooting identified

A man arrested after a police shooting Thursday morning was identified Friday.

Patrick Malone, 31, was booked at the Clark County Detention Center on charges of assaulting a protected person with a deadly weapon and resisting an officer with a deadly weapon.

The shooting happened about 9 a.m. after officers serving a search warrant on a child pornography case entered Malone’s apartment in the 7100 block of Pirates Cove Road, near Westcliff Drive and Rainbow Boulevard.

Police said Malone pointed a firearm at the officers. Two Las Vegas SWAT officers, identified as Sgt. Roderick Hunt and officer J. James , fired shots at him, but missed.

There were no injuries.

Malone told detectives he was asleep and thought intruders had broken into his home. Police said SWAT officers waited outside the man’s apartment and used a bullhorn to alert anyone inside the home to exit. There was no answer, and after 15 or 20 minutes the officers entered the home.

SWAT was assisting a regional task force of officers from Las Vegas police, Henderson police and the FBI.

Police said the child pornography investigation against Malone is ongoing and anyone with information was urged to contact the Sexual Assault Section at 702-828-3307, or, to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 385-5555 or at www.crimestoppersofnv.com.
