Las Vegas attorney Gordon confirmed as federal judge
WASHINGTON — Las Vegas attorney Andrew Patrick Gordon won confirmation Monday to become a federal judge in Nevada.
Gordon was approved by the U.S. Senate in a voice vote for the lifetime post that carries a government salary of $174,000.
A Harvard Law School graduate, Gordon has been a partner since 1997 in the McDonald Carano Wilson law firm, specializing in commercial litigation.
“I have no doubt that Andy Gordon will serve the court well,” Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., said.
Gordon, who was born in 1962, fills one of three vacancies in the seven-judge Nevada district whose workload had become a growing concern. He replaces U.S. District Judge Larry Hicks, who has taken senior status.
Elissa Cadish, a Clark County judge nominated by President Barack Obama in February 2012 to fill another vacancy, withdrew from consideration last week after being blocked by Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nev., in a dispute over her views on gun rights. Anther Obama nominee, Las Vegas attorney Jennifer Dorsey, was proposed for a judgeship last September but is stalled as Heller says he continues to review her credentials.
