Man shot by officers had 150 guns in his home
Police said they found more than 150 handguns, shotguns and rifles in the home of the 63-year-old man fatally shot by Henderson police officers Tuesday morning after he open fired on them.
Edward John Scheboth died from a gunshot wound to the head, the Clark County coroner’s office said.
He had no criminal history with the Henderson Police Department or the Metropolitan Police Department. His only contact with officers was for two speeding tickets, in 2001 and 1991.
Scheboth, according to police, drove to the scene of the shooting on his motorcycle — with three handguns and a rifle — and began firing at an officer in what Henderson police described as an “ambush.”
The incident occurred at 8 a.m. at Boulder Highway and College Drive.
Scheboth lived about four miles from the scene, in the 400 block of McBride Way, about a quarter mile from the Fiesta hotel-casino.
Scheboth walked across the median at Boulder Highway and College Drive and shot at a female officer while she sat in her squad car, according to Keith Paul, a spokesman with the Henderson police department.
When fellow officers came to her aid and chased Scheboth down, he opened fired on them. The officers returned fire, killing him, Paul said.
The names of the officers involved will be released within 48 hours of the shooting.
The officers were in the vicinity responding to an earlier accident that took the life of a 75-year-old man, who was fatally struck by a motorist as he tried to cross Boulder Highway and Horizon Drive, not far from the scene of the shooting.
