North Las Vegas City Council to recognize life-saving efforts of police officer, two civilians

A North Las Vegas police officer and two civilians will be recognized by the City Council today for their efforts in saving two lives in separate incidents earlier this year.

North Las Vegas police said Tuesday officer Mario Olsson will receive a Life Saving Award for helping a man with a serious gunshot wound on April 9.

When Olsson responded to a shooting call in the 3800 block of Pecos Road, he found a victim bleeding profusely from the neck. Olsson then inserted his finger into the wound, applying direct pressure to the victim's carotid artery for several minutes until medical personnel arrived.

Police also said Darren and Angelique Hardin saved a 2-year-old girl's life after she fell into a pool this summer.

On July, 19, the Hardins heard a neighbor screaming for help. They found an unresponsive child at the home. They worked together to clear the girl's airway and resuscitated her. The girl has fully recovered, police said.
