Melanie Cholewinski, a former Clark County welfare worker, was ordered Wednesday to spend two to five years in prison for stealing taxpayer money meant for the poor. Cholewinski’s husband, Michael Wayne Brown, was sentenced to three to 10 years in prison. The couple also must pay $91,241 in restitution to the county.
The Courthouse Cafe, in the Regional Justice Center, has been replaced with a Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop. Police kept an eye on the deal because the restaurant’s partners have been linked to an FBI investigation into fraud and corruption in homeowners associations.
