Police: East valley shooter killed man, then fired on himself
January 15, 2013 - 2:17 pm
A 24-year-old man who had drug problems and had been acting irrationally recently acquired a gun and was not going to be messed with because he was "strapped," said a Las Vegas police report released Tuesday.
The report said Michael Roy Smith approached three men while carrying a .38- caliber revolver and, according to a witness, began firing on the group Monday night in the east valley. Two men fled.
When the gunfire stopped about 6:15 p.m., 40-year-old Carlos Rasmond Randle's body lay on a sidewalk near Lamb Boulevard and Stewart Avenue.
Fifteen minutes later, police were called to an apartment complex on the 4500 block of East Bonanza Road after a gunshot was fired. The complex was less than a half-mile from where Randle was killed.
At the complex, police discovered Smith, injured from a gunshot to his head. When police spoke with him, he said he shot Carlos.
Police said the gunshot was self-inflicted. There were no signs of a struggle on Smith, and only one shot was heard.
