Police identify three suspects in quadruple shooting

A series of fights and a dispute over a missing cellphone culminated in the Thursday morning shooting that wounded four teens, according to Las Vegas police.

Three of the four suspects police allege were involved in the quadruple shooting were identified Friday.

Troy Emanuel, 18, Kyle Freeman, 21, and Reggie Moore, 21, all of Oakland, Calif., each face four counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, four counts of conspiracy to commit murder, four counts of battery with a deadly weapon, one count of robbery with a deadly weapon and one count of discharging a firearm at or into a structure or vehicle.

It has not yet been determined what charges a fourth suspect, a 17-year-old boy , may face, a police spokesman said Friday.

The shooting, which happened about 4 a.m. Thursday in the courtyard of Siegel Suites, 455 E. Twain Ave., was rooted in escalating hostilities between two groups of young people.

The four victims - three females ages 17 to 18 and a 17-year-old boy - told police they were walking on Las Vegas Boulevard when they got into multiple fights with four male suspects. The victims said they later went to a friend's apartment at Siegel Suites. They were sitting in the courtyard near the pool when the group they fought with earlier appeared. The four suspects demanded the return of a cellphone that had been lost in an earlier altercation.

An argument ensued. It ended with six to seven gunshots being fired at the fleeing victims, the arrest reports said. One bullet lodged in the bumper of a nearby car. All four victims received injuries that weren't life-threatening.

Police located the juvenile suspect at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center after he sought medical attention Thursday for an injury probably suffered in one of the fights. Surveillance video from the hospital showed three males accompanied the 17-year-old as he entered.

A room key left behind at the hospital led police to a Motel 6 on Tropicana Avenue. Freeman and Emanuel were detained while loading bags into a back of a car that matched a description from a shooting witness. Moore was detained inside one of the hotel rooms. While serving a warrant to search the hotel rooms, police recovered a stolen pistol not used in the shooting and multiple cellphones.

Emanuel, Freeman and Moore told police they were on the Strip together when they were confronted by another group of four.

Moore told police he received several injuries and had a cellphone taken from him during one of the fights. Emanuel said he, Moore, Freeman and the 17-year-old drove to Siegel Suites looking for the group. Emanuel told police he pointed a handgun and fired six or seven times, according to his arrest report. Freeman told police he disposed of the 9 mm handgun in a residential trash can.

Police said Thursday the four suspects are thought to be tied to a Stockton, Calif., gang.
