Third person arrested in homeless man’s death

A third person has been arrested in the case of a homeless man who was beaten and tossed in a dumpster last month.

Theresa Allen, 46, was arrested Friday. Las Vegas police accuse her of aiding Emilio Evalio Arenas, 43, and Peyton Hemingway, 37, who were arrested late last month in California.

The three are accused of killing Carl Pane Simon, 50, whose body was found inside a rolling suitcase in an east valley dumpster Aug. 12. His ankles were bound with electrical tape, the report said.

Simon had been strangled, beaten and stabbed before being placed inside his own suitcase, which the transient used to carry his belongings.

Witnesses told police that Arenas and Hemingway attacked Simon in a room at the Budget Suites at 4855 Boulder Highway, near Flamingo Road. They accused Simon of stealing money intended for drugs, the report said.

Allen helped clean the crime scene, the report said.

Simon’s family told detectives he had no permanent address, but he frequented the low-income apartments along Boulder Highway.
