Two arrested in ‘swarm burglary’ at Las Vegas convenience store

Two people have been arrested in connection with a "swarm burglary" at a south valley convenience store late last month, Las Vegas police said Tuesday.

Police said Deangelo Harris, 18, and Kathleen Cornell, also 18, were two of the 26 people who swarmed a City Stop convenience store near Sunset and Pecos roads shortly before 3 a.m. April 30, grabbed items and left without paying.

The crimes were caught on store surveillance video.

Harris and Cornell were booked into the Clark County Detention Center on Monday on recommended charges of burglary, grand larceny and conspiracy to commit burglary. Bail for each is $23,000. They are scheduled to make their initial court appearances today.

Police spokesman Bill Cassell said that of the 26 people who participated in the crimes, 10 have been identified by police. "We're working rapidly to identify the other 16," he said.

Cassell said that as of Tuesday afternoon, police have filed three arrest warrants for other suspects in the case.

He gave credit to City Stop officials for having working video surveillance .

Cassell added that although some of the people in the video have been identified as gang members, police do not consider the swarm a gang activity because not all those involved belong to gangs.

He also said that if patrons or workers at a store ever find themselves in similar circumstances, they need to get out of the store if possible and call police.
