Two people die in apparent murder-suicide at southeast Las Vegas apartment

Two people died in an apparent murder-suicide discovered Friday inside an apartment near Desert Inn Road and Maryland Parkway, Las Vegas police said.

Officers performing a welfare check found the bodies of a man and woman, both believed to be Hispanic and in their 20s, inside the Mark 1 Apartments at 1020 E. Desert Inn Road shortly after 3 p.m.

Officers were alerted by the woman’s friend who had not heard from her in a few days, police said.

The woman, who lived in the apartment, appears to have been the victim, said Homicide Lt. Ray Steiber.

Determining exactly what happened in apparent murder-suicides can be difficult for police, as often times there are no witnesses to help the investigation along.

“We’ll try to put together what we believe the story is,” Steiber said. “Unfortunately, sometimes you may never know.”

The time of death has not yet been established. The investigation is ongoing.
