Northern Nevada prison inmate dies at Carson City hospital

An inmate housed at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center died Tuesday evening.

Walter Earl Day, 59, was serving 48 to 120 months in the Regional Medical Facility of the correctional center for driving under the influence, according to the Nevada Department of Corrections. He served nearly 34 months.

Day died about 6 p.m. at the Carson Tahoe Hospital in Carson City, NDOC said in a news release.

The Carson Sheriff’s Office coroner will perform an autopsy and determine the cause and manner of death.
