YOUNG MUSICIANS JOIN
HENDERSON SYMPHONY
Award-winning young musicians from Southern Nevada step into the musical spotlight Sunday afternoon when they join the Henderson Symphony Orchestra for a free concert.
Continuing a 17-year tradition, the concert provides a showcase for the student musicians beyond January's Young Artists Competition, where they demonstrated their winning talents in 10-minute solos performed before a panel of judges.
Sunday's concert features the Henderson Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Taras Krysa , accompanying the seven young musicians.
Four of the performers are violinists: Emily Richardson, 11, from Bob Miller Middle School; 15-year-olds Liam Mansfield and Sabrina Parry, representing the Las Vegas Academy and Utah's Tuacahn High School, respectively; and 16-year-old Caolinn Mejza , also from the Las Vegas Academy. Rounding out the performers: pianist Artem Alexanyan , 16, from the College of Southern Nevada High School; trumpeter Hazen Mayo , 17, from Palo Verde High School; and flutist Nicole Whelchel , 17, from the Las Vegas Academy.
The free concert will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Henderson Pavilion, 200 S. Green Valley Parkway. Additional information is available by calling 267-2171 or online at http://hendersonlive.com.
