Clay bones, poets and sugar installation among First Friday highlights

The monthly First Friday arts festival returns from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday to the 18b Las Vegas Arts District downtown. For more information, visit firstfridaylasvegas.com. Many area galleries plan First Friday shows, and several are also open for preview nights from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Participating galleries include:

Clay Arts Las Vegas plans to exhibit an installation of clay bones crafted to raise awareness about genocide through the One Million Bones project at the 1511 S. Main St. studio. The Contemporary Arts Center inside The Arts Factory, 107 E. Charleston Blvd., is also scheduled to host an exhibition and performance inspired by the project. Chef Robert Teddy's "Redefined Sugar: A Sugar Glass Installation Benefiting Communities In Schools" is scheduled to run Thursday through Nov. 30 at the Trifecta Gallery inside The Arts Factory, 107 E. Charleston Blvd. Visit trifectagallery.com.

The Jenny Valdez Gallery inside The Arts Factory, 107 E. Charleston Blvd., plans to display "40 Winks," a show of work of artist/illustrator DB Donovan, Thursday through Nov. 30. Visit jennyvaldez.weebly.com.

In cooperation with the Vegas Valley Book Festival, Dayvid Figler, Jeffrey Bennington Grindley, Roxy Collins, Kari O'Connor, Elizabeth Quinones-Zaldana, Nathan Say and Paul Sacksteder are set to perform poetry throughout First Friday at 1047 S. Main St.

Sean C. Jones' "Cinematic Montage" is scheduled to be on display Thursday through Nov. 25 in Jana's Red Room inside The Arts Factory, 107 E. Charleston Blvd. Visit janasredroom.com.

Kleven Contemporary inside Emergency Arts, 520 E. Fremont St., is set to show T. G. Miller's "Acrylic Satanic" Friday through Dec. 15.

Javier Sanchez and Marlene Siu's photographs of Las Vegas residents are presented in non-traditional, three-dimensional formats that invite the viewer to engage with the work in unexpected ways in "Relative Perspectives," a show on display in the Rotunda Gallery inside the Clark County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway through Nov. 30. The show is constructed from reclaimed Las Vegas doors in various states of decay. Visit clarkcountynv.gov/parks.

"Retrospective: 10 Years of First Friday @ The Funk House" is set to feature works of art acquired by Cindy Funkhouser, The Funk House owner over the last 10 years. Works include art by Gina Quaranto, Enrique Nevarez, Amy Gonzalez, Amy Sol, Dray, Cristina Paulos, shanmichael and Miranda Espinosa. The show is scheduled to be open from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday at The Funkhouse, 1228 S. Casino Center Blvd.
