Las Vegas artist burns unsold art

James Henninger gives a new meaning to the term “Fire Sale.”

On Saturday, Sept. 28th Henninger lit several pieces of his artwork on fire in the patio area outside Bar + Bistro at the Arts Factory in downtown Las Vegas. The art was estimated to be worth several thousand dollars collectively.

When asked why he burns his own artwork Henninger said, “I live in a 400-square-foot apartment. I’ve got no furniture. I’ve got three work tables in my living room, which is my studio. My bedroom is full of supplies. I’ve got no room for anything.”

He also pointed out that this gives an opportunity for his friends, fans and admirers of his work to purchase his pieces at a reasonable price.

“I’m not holding my art hostage.” Henninger said. “I’d rather see it in someone’s house. I’d rather see it sold for a good price to someone who’s going to appreciate it.”
