March 24, 2011 - 7:18 pm
Former KJUL-AM radio announcer Scott O’Neil died on stage Thursday in front of about 500 audience members during a taping of The Dennis Bono Show in the South Point showroom.
O’Neil, in his 60s, was stricken minutes into the show while seated on a couch next to Bono.
Bono's wife, Lorraine Bono, said Corrie Sachs had just performed her opening song and sat down when O'Neil leaned back and "made a snoring sound and was out.”
Stagehands rushed to assist O’Neil while paramedics were summoned. But O'Neil could not be revived.
Lorraine Bono, said Dennis Bono "is too devastated to talk. They were like brothers."
O'Neil was a well-known L.A. deejay years ago. He was on KJUL for years. He joined Bono as his sidekick in 2000.
Dennis Bono issued a statement saying “Scotty passed onstage doing what he loved. We are devastated at his loss.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time,” he said.
