This is one of the primary reasons I never get tired of doing the Taste of the Town column: It’s a great source of surprises.
Food
A few weeks ago, we asked chefs across the valley to share with us their signature recipes — those dishes that someone thinks of when they think of a particular chef.
Terzetto, the steak and seafood house that opened in March at M Resort, offers a menu filled with classic dishes — albeit, many given a modern twist — and nonbeef entrees lighter-minded diners may desire.
Aurelio’s Pizza, 10960 S. Eastern Ave., Henderson, received 18 demerits Sept. 30. Violations included steam table used to reheat food. GRADE: B
Wine: Trentatre Rosso IGT
The latest Las Vegas icon to fall victim to changing market conditions: traditional coffee shops in locals casinos. They’re being replaced by Coco’s Bakery Restaurants, Denny’s, the Original Pancake House and the like.
I had my suspicions the moment director Melissa Lilly made a pre-curtain speech telling the audience that “I Never Saw Another Butterfly” was an “inspirational” play. The Las Vegas Academy of International Studies, Performing and Visual Arts does many things well theatrically, but “inspirational” is not one of them.
Known for his gourmet spin on American comfort food and popular processed snacks, chef Kerry Simon hasn’t abandoned his defining philosophy at his 7-month-old restaurant Simon at Palms Place, 4381 W. Flamingo Road.
Gotta love that kielbasa, the legendary Polish favorite. And apparently readers do, because several of them responded to a query from James Noetzel, who’s looking for a “chunky-garlic” variety.
Wine: Rosenblum Cellars Zinfandel Vintner’s Cuvee XXX
The major reasons to see Las Vegas Little Theatre’s “How the Other Half Loves” are Barbara King and Gary Lunn. She plays a well-heeled, well-spoken proper English woman who’s having an affair. He’s her often befuddled husband, the sort who goes about looking for a coat that he’s already wearing.
Bagel Cafe Express, Suncoast, 9090 Alta Drive, received 20 demerits Dec. 29. Violations included no sanitizer available at three-compartment sink. GRADE: B
