Air Force Band of the Golden West offers free concert

The Air Force Band of the Golden West will perform a free concert for the public Friday night at the Las Vegas Academy Performing Arts Center.

The two-hour concert, Summon The Heroes, will feature the 40-piece band from Travis Air Force Base, Calif., and a variety of music, including Broadway tunes, marches and a collection of patriotic numbers. Vocalists and a jazz ensemble also will perform.

"There's a little bit of something for everybody," said Master Sgt. Jon Linker, a trumpet player who coordinates the band's tours.

Friday's concert will begin at 7 p.m. at the academy's Performing Arts Center, at Ninth Street and Clark Avenue. Even though the concert is free, tickets to enter will be available at two Wells Fargo bank branches, 530 Las Vegas Blvd., and 112 Water St., in Henderson.

Tickets will also be available at the door.

"If people don't have tickets, they will still be welcome to come," Linker said, adding that tickets help the band track attendance.

On Saturday, the band will lead the Hispanic Day Parade in Henderson, which begins 10 a.m. at Water Street and Ocean Avenue.
