Furthur playing doubleheader at Palms

Las Vegas sees a lot of Grateful Dead alumni in various configurations, but the one called Furthur won’t be back next year.

The band headed by Bob Weir and Phil Lesh recently announced they will take most of 2014 off to work on other projects, so Tuesday and Wednesday’s two-night stand at the Palms will have to do for a while.

Of course, Weir already played a solo acoustic date at the Palms in February, a sign that busy the singer-guitarist, who turns 66 on Oct. 16, may be back sooner than later.

A few years back, Weir told the Review-Journal the Dead’s style of ensemble improvisation was “uniquely American. … You state a theme, you take it for a little walk in the woods. That’s the genius of American music.”
