That’s a wrap for spring break

MTV has wrapped production of spring break filming at the Palms, to premiere March 28 on MTV. It wasn't marred by any of the old chicanery that once plagued Florida spring breaks.

"It was smooth, man. Our security reports were business as usual," says Jon Gray, Palms' vice president of brand and revenue development.

A big reason: The Palms is indoors and corporate, so spring breakers partied under the watchful eyes of cameras and beefy guards.

And MTV handpicked students ages 21 to 27 through casting calls, with nearly half arriving through StudentCity, a spring break company MTV works with regularly.

"It was a great-looking crowd," Gray says.

I asked him if students were turned away for being fat. He said he didn't think so, that casting calls were essentially ID checks.

Gray gives the Palms good odds at landing MTV spring break next year.

"They said, of the last five years, this (Palms staff) was the best team they worked with," Gray says of MTV execs.

Stars who performed: Pitbull, Ne-Yo, Snoop Dogg, Lupe Fiasco with Wiz Khalifa and DJ Pauly D.

Next week, students will swarm Vegas for March Madness. Gray says he just signed a "big-ass check" to line the Playboy Club with 42-inch and 65-inch plasma TVs to show every NCAA tourney game.

He dubs it: "Bunnies, beer, basketball and blackjack."

MTV is all over Vegas. On Wednesdays, the network runs the new "Real World" Vegas episodes filmed at Hard Rock Hotel.
