Mountain’s Edge announces 2016 community events

Mountain's Edge is announcing the return of its community events that are fun, help others, bring people together and free to attend.

"We're pleased to host events where friends and families can come together and join us in helping local organizations provide support to those in need and make a positive impact," said Deonna Stocker, manager of information center operations at Mountain's Edge. "We also love to have people learn about and explore our beautiful community."

• Country In the Park — The annual outdoor concert and festival brings Nashville talent to Mountain's Edge on May 7. Performances are in Exploration Park's amphitheater, which provides a unique scenic venue with the surrounding mountain backdrop. Beginning in the afternoon to 8 p.m., attendees also will enjoy a beer garden, food vendors, booths, exhibits, kid's activities and park amenities.

• Take Steps for Crohn's & Colitis Walk — On May 14, community members are invited to sign-up individually or form a team to join the morning walk to help those suffering from painful and uncomfortable digestive diseases. Held at Exploration Park, the fun event also features family-friendly activities. Proceeds benefit the Las Vegas chapter of the nonprofit Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America.

• Candlelighters Superhero 5K — After 25 years, the Candlelighters Superhero 5K has become the biggest local fundraiser for children with cancer and their families and the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada. This year's race and walk will be Sept.10 and includes a variety of family-friendly activities, opening and award ceremonies, booths and more. Dress as your favorite superhero to show support for children battling cancer.

• Family, Fur & Fun Festival — If you love animals, mark your calendar for Oct. 15. The Family, Fur & Fun Festival provides information about proper pet care and fostering and adoption opportunities, with a variety of educational and interactive booths, activities and demonstrations. Attendees are invited to bring their costumed pets for the Halloween Pet Costume Contest. Proceeds from the contest and raffle benefit local animal shelters and rescue organizations.

• Community Garage Sales — Garage sales will be March 5 and Oct. 1, and the public is invited to join the search for treasures in the master plan. The spring garage sale will be 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. with 75 sellers at Exploration Park and 250 homes throughout the community. Additionally, the public and garage sale participants can donate gently used items to benefit the nonprofit People's Autism Foundation. Details about the October garage sale will be released later.
