It provides housing, financial assistance and education to men, women and children living with HIV and AIDS in Southern Nevada.

The theme of this year’s Ribbon of Life fundraiser is Throwback 30 to honor its 30th anniversary.

“It’s an amazing showcase of some of the top headliners on the Las Vegas Strip and throughout the Las Vegas entertainment industry,” said Gordon Miles, president and chief operating officer of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Nevada Properties and a Golden Rainbow board member. “The stars in Las Vegas support Ribbon of Life every year and help thousands of people in our community living with HIV/AIDS.”

The show will include performers from “Jabbawockeez,” Frank Marino’s “Divas Las Vegas,” Criss Angel’s “”MJ Live.” Alumni from iconic Las Vegas shows including “Jubilee!” and “Folies Bergere” also are scheduled to perform.

Nevada to receive $3 million to create more affordable housing for low-income residents

The Nevada Housing Division announced Nevada will receive $3 million in first-ever federal funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development through the National Housing Trust Fund.

Nearly $174 million was allocated through the National Housing Trust Fund to provide a new affordable housing production program that will complement existing federal, state and local efforts to increase and preserve the supply of affordable housing for extremely low-income households, including families experiencing homelessness.

NHD intends to use the funds to support the goals highlighted in the strategic plan of the Nevada Interagency Council on Homelessness. The council was established to coordinate and focus state efforts to address homelessness and provides the opportunity for Nevada to engage in an integrated approach to homelessness and promote interagency cooperation. Realtor earns national Meritorious Service Award

Longtime Nevada Realtor Marvin Rubin was one of two Realtors in the nation to receive the Meritorious Service Award this week from the National Association of Realtors at the trade association’s midyear meeting in Washington, D.C.

Dave Tina, president of the Nevada Association of Realtors, said Rubin’s honor was one of the most prestigious awards an NAR member can receive from the national association. As one of NAR’s 535 federal political coordinators for 2016, Rubin was recognized for his years of service and diligence in promoting real estate issues and his advocacy with members of Nevada’s congressional delegation, including U.S. Sen. Harry Reid.

“Only two Realtor each year receive this prestigious award,” Tina said. “It’s an honor for Marv to be one of them, and it says a lot about what he has done to help our profession, our state and our local and national associations over the years.”

Scott Beaudry, president of the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors, added: “Marv his fought the good fight for many years to ensure that the Realtors voice has been heard by our congressional delegation.”

Rubin is a Realtor with the Meadows Realty Group in Las Vegas. He has been an active member and board member of NVAR and GLVAR, earning several awards from the local associations.

Downtown Vegas Alliance announces speaker series

In partnership with the city of Las Vegas, the Downtown Vegas Alliance (The Alliance), a nonprofit organization comprised of downtown business owners and stakeholders, announced the first of two community forums focused on strengthening the role of downtown Las Vegas in the region’s economic growth and quality of life. The events are free and open to the public.

The first event, scheduled June 6, features a panel of leaders and influencers from Detroit who will share stories of success and provide insight on how their respective organizations helped revitalize their city’s downtown. According to Todd Kessler, chairman of The Alliance and a Resort Gaming Group/Downtown Project executive, the goal of the forums is to present fresh perspectives and lessons that can guide and expand current redevelopment efforts throughout downtown.

“On the heels of the city’s new vision and master plan for downtown and significant ongoing private investment, the timing of these forums is ideal,” Kessler said. “We are excited to hear from others who have faced similar challenges with their own downtowns, and we invite everyone to join us for what we anticipate will be an enlightening evening of discussion about downtown revitalization and why downtowns matter.”

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. at the D Las Vegas’ Detroit Ballroom, 301 Fremont St. There will be a no-host cocktail reception from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. The panel presentation and discussion will be from 5:45 to 7:15 p.m. To RSVP, email rsvp@ffwpr.com.

Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices goes global

Next year, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices has plans to expand internationally. As part of its first phase of expansion, the network launched a new property-search platform at BerkshireHathawayHS.com; and a listing-syndication program now broadcasting Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices network listings to 70 real estate websites worldwide.

The platform was developed in conjunction with Aliso Viejo, California-based Real Estate Digital. With two mouse clicks, consumers may choose to translate the website in any of 10 languages other than English, including Chinese, French (European and Canadian), German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese (Brazilian and European) and Spanish (European and Latin American). The site also seamlessly converts currency and measurements.

Consumers may then search for homes in any U.S. city or state serviced by Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices franchisees.

What they find they can’t get on any other single site: full Multiple Listing Service data containing all listings in their search area.

By registering on BerkshireHathawayHS.com, consumers also gain proprietary “Inside Access” features including the latest pending and sold information, market reports and property-price history.

“Until now, global shoppers of U.S. real estate see only a portion of homes for sale in their searches of states, cities and postal ZIP codes,” said Gino Blefari, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices. “When you register and search for U.S. real estate on our website, you see every property for sale in your search area, and then you can filter and sort those searches as you would on other sites. It’s a much more effective way to begin searches of homes in America.”

“Regardless of nationality, today’s homebuyers want as much information as possible to make informed decisions on their real estate investments,” said Stephen Phillips, president of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices. “Our website and property-search platform are an indispensable resource for any global buyer of U.S. real estate.”

To complement the home search platform, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices is broadcasting its network listings abroad. Most of the residential listings priced at $200,000 and above are now displayed on 70 real estate websites serving consumers in 37 countries on five continents.

About Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, Nevada Properties operates in Southern Nevadas. Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices is based in Irvine, California. Visit berkshirehathawayhs.com for details.

Real Estate company helps homeless youth program

New furnishings, paint and home improvements greeted Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth’s Independent Living Program clients when they returned home from school and work recently. The renovation and upgrades were made through the generosity of associates and business partners of Keller Williams Las Vegas Realty to the nonprofit organization’s six aging housing properties, emergency shelter and new expansion project.

The 160-member local Keller Williams team volunteered for the fourth year in a row to help homeless youth through NPHY for the real estate firm’s national RED Day service project, continuing previous work to the more than 40-year-old NPHY transitional housing units. The effort also kicked off a new NPHY retrofit and expansion project by gutting the interior of a house that will become an outreach and Safe Place mobile crisis intervention deployment and intake center. Keller Williams is the primary in-kind partner for the expansion site — the 4969 Retrofit Project — next to the NPHY Drop-In Center near UNLV at 4981 Shirley St.

“Our hearts go out to the thousands of homeless teens in Southern Nevada, and this rewarding RED Day service project is the least we can do,” said Joan Kilton of Keller Williams Las Vegas Realty. “Our company culture is one of caring and sharing, and the work we do with Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth reminds us of those in vulnerable situations so we don’t lose focus as a company.”

Work at the sites involved advanced landscaping, substantial roof repairs, fixing several shower and bathroom facilities, adding new flooring at several properties, and providing new furniture where needed. This was in addition to more basic improvements covering plumbing, flooring, painting, new fixtures, weed removal, and general cleaning.

Assisting Keller Williams associates were participating partners including Homeservices Inc., Valley West Mortgage, Guild Mortgage, All Western Mortgage, SCC Mechanical Services LLC, PRS Roofing, Supreme Lending, Carpets N More, Raysco, Red Carpet Moving Best Mattress, Access Services Group, and Goodfellows Shoeshine &Accessories.

“We can’t thank our partners enough for their tremendous contributions and joining us to make a difference for homeless youth,” said Kilton, adding that because the housing properties are older, they need more attention.

“We are overwhelmed by the generous support the Keller William Las Vegas Realty associates and business partners shared with us in helping our youth clients,” said Arash Ghafoori, NPHY executive director. “It means so much for these youth to come home and find everything new and improved and that so many people want to help them given their various life situations. We couldn’t make these improvements without the Keller Williams team.”

The NPHY Independent Living Program is a transitional housing program providing housing, utilities, transportation, food and clothing, case management, education and employment counseling and assistance, tutoring, life skills classes, crisis counseling, and enrichment opportunities to help homeless youth grow into self-confident, healthy adults. Last year, 100 percent of NPHY teens who graduated from the program exited to stable housing.

During fiscal year 2014-2015, 125 youth spent 398 bed nights at NPHY’s Emergency Shelter.

Nevada is ranked first in the nation for the rate of unaccompanied homeless children and youth living unsheltered on the streets. Last year, there were more than 11,000 homeless students enrolled in Clark County schools.
