Clark County Medical Society presents awards

The Clark County Medical Society presented its 61st President’s Installation and Awards ceremony June 27 at the World Market Center.

This professional organization includes more than 1,100 physicians and advocates for doctors and their patients in Southern Nevada, encouraging the delivery of quality health care.

George Alexander presented the nominees for the Winged Heart Awards that recognize outstanding nurses and nonprofit organizations that are dedicated to improving health care in Southern Nevada. Award winners were Tammy Wert, a registered nurse at University Medical Center, and the nonprofit Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada.

Rising Star awards honoring outstanding medical students went to Robert Wills of Touro University Nevada College of Osteopathic Medicine and Lindsey Murphy of the University of Nevada School of Medicine.

The Harold Lee Feikes, MD Memorial Award went to Mitchell Forman, an osteopathic physician and founding dean and professor of medicine at Touro University Nevada. He and his wife, Pearl, live in Henderson.

The MD Award named for the late Robert W. Schreck went to Warren Evins.

The Nicholas J. Horn Award went to Justice Michael A. Cherry of the Nevada Supreme Court.

The 2015 President’s Awards were presented to Mark Doubrava by Michael Edwards, and to George Ross by Andrew Eisen.

Special recognition was the Milestone Award for 50 years of service, presented to William Stephen, 1972 past president of the organization.

Cherry installed the 2015-16 Clark County Medical Society officers: Andrew Eisen, president; Souzan El-Eid, president-elect; Michael Edwards, immediate past president; Joseph Adashek, secretary; Staci McHale, treasurer; Lesley Dickson, delegate chairwoman.

Jacqueline Nguyen-Lee will be co-president of the Clark County Medical Society Alliance.

John Ellerton presides over the medical society scholarship fund.

The evening commenced with a reception and silent auction in the World View Room on the 16th floor’s Sky Terrace.

Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres were served to guests including Mayor Carolyn Goodman; Thomas Schwenk, dean of the University of Nevada School of Medicine, and his wife, Jane; Barbara Atkinson, dean of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Medicine; Shelley Berkley, CEO and senior provost of Touro College and University System in Nevada and California; university Regent Mark Doubrava with his wife, Sabrina; Regent Allison Stephens; Regent James Dean Leavitt; and Assemblyman John Hambrick, R-Las Vegas, and his wife, Nancy.

Other guests included Parvin Jacobs, Jeffrey Cummings, Mary Ellen and Sam McMullen, Selma Bartlett, Larry Lehrner, Beverly Neyland and Sandy Peltyn, the event’s coordinator.

The formal dinner was in an adjoining room overlooking the Las Vegas skyline. Mistress of ceremonies was Beth Fisher of KTNV-TV, Channel 13. Goodman welcomed guests and spoke about the urgency to educate and develop outstanding medical doctors who will remain in the state.

The Nellis Honor Guard followed the welcome and 11-year-old Tobey Brill sang the national anthem.

Other supporters attending were Kathy Eisen, Heather Allen, Analia and William Jacks, Linda Rittenburg, Maxine Spatt, Joan and Max Doubrava, Diane Eisen, Erin Bilbray-Kohn and Noah Kohn, Wendy Nelson, Valerie Clark, Melissa Davies, Debbie Donaldson, Lee Quick, Meghan Bailey, RayAnn Rodriguez, JoAnn Arguello, Kym Roundtree and Betsy VanDeusen.
