Clinics in Schools gala draws crowd
February 20, 2011 - 2:03 am
A reception to honor Clinics in Schools took place recently in the Gold Lounge at Aria. This was the second annual gala for this new charity.
The event drew a capacity crowd, with 100 percent of the evening's proceeds going directly to providing free medical care at Clinic in Schools. The organization operates out of two free-standing clinics on the campuses of elementary schools -- one at Martinez Elementary School in North Las Vegas and the other in East Las Vegas at Cunningham Elementary School. Together, they are the only no-cost health care centers for children under the age of 18. Students who are older can receive care if still enrolled in school in Nevada.
Dr. Noah B. Kohn is the Clinic in Schools medical director and vice chair. Board member Alisa Nave Worth introduced Kohn and Jennifer Schomburg, Clinics in Schools chair and president, to guests including Dawn Gibbons, Susie and Dan Lee, Gerd Peters, Abby and Craig Hudema, Linda and Arthur Schuetz, Gladys Comer, Adam Davis, Mikey Bilbray, Marty Teller, Jackie Taylor, Wendy and Richard Plaster, Maggie and Brian Plaster and assemblyman Elliot T. Anderson.
Seen among the board members in attendance were Paul Alberini, Jacob Bundick, Greg Esposito, Russell Rowe, Aimee and Ben Stephens and Maurizo Trevisan.
All enjoyed cocktails and butler-passed hors d'oeuvres while participating in a silent auction for 28 packages.
More guests lending support were Paula Zier, Adam Davis, Russell Jones, Bridget Phillips, Shannon and Danny Axelrod, and former Las Vegas resident Kim (formerly Gerringer) George.
Since its inception, Clinics in Schools has provided medical services to more than 14,000 children -- more than 5,000 children were in 2010 alone. The organization has given free medical care to children from all across Southern Nevada, encompassing more than 80 different ZIP codes.
