4 from Nellis Air Force Base receive leadership award

Nellis Air Force Base has honored four airmen with the 2013 Lance P. Sijan Leadership Award.

Honored were Lt. Col. Grant M. Hargrove, Maj. Randall L. Harvey II, Senior Master Sgt. David DeLoney III and Master Sgt. Delorean M. Sheridan.

According to a news release from Nellis AFB, “The Sijan Award, first presented in 1981, honors the first Air Force Academy graduate to receive the Medal of Honor. Capt. Lance Sijan was shot down over Vietnam Nov. 9, 1967, and evaded capture for 45 days despite severe injuries. He later died while in a Vietnamese prisoner of war camp and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroism.”

CLARK COUNTY SEEKS CITIZEN INPUT FOR SOUTHERN NEVADA STRONG PROJECT

Clark County is seeking citizen input for the Southern Nevada Strong project, according to a county website.

According to the website, “Southern Nevada Strong is a regional planning effort to improve the Las Vegas Valley’s economic competitiveness by better connecting housing, transportation and jobs throughout the valley. The effort is a one-time community project to develop a regional plan to improve the region’s long-term viability. SNS also is soliciting resident input via an online survey that will be open until May 27.”

CLARK COUNTY LIBRARY TO HOLD MEDICARE INFORMATION SESSION

The A, B, C and Ds of Medicare information session will be held at the Clark County Library at 3 p.m. May 19.

According to an announcement from the library, volunteers from the Nevada State Health Insurance Assistance Program will provide free assistance, counseling and education for seniors regarding Medicare, supplemental health insurance and long-term care options.

Participants can learn about eligibility and benefits for Medicare programs such as Part D enrollment, prescription drug benefit plan, general Medicare coverage and limitations and get assistance with claims, requests for reconsiderations and appeal processes for Medicare and Medigap, the release said.

BlUEGRASS IN THE PARK SET FOR MAY 4 AT LORENZI PARK LAKE BAND SHELL

Bluegrass in the Park will take place at the Lorenzi Park Lake Band Shell from 1-3 p.m. May 4.

According to a city of Las Vegas press release, the entire family is welcome at this free event to enjoy the music of local bluegrass and acoustic bands playing traditional American music with banjos, fiddles, guitars and mandolins.

CLARK COUNTY COMMISSION APPROVES FUEL PROJECTS

The Clark County Commission has approved the first fuel revenue indexing funded projects, according to a county website.

According to the website, “In March the Clark County Commission approved its first two regional transportation projects funded through fuel revenue indexing. The commission previously passed an ordinance that ties the fuel tax to inflation through Dec. 31, 2016, generating $700 million for 185 locally and regionally significant transportation projects.

“In the initial projects, $5.5 million is earmarked to improve Lamb Boulevard between Owens Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard, and on Desert Inn Road from Paradise Road to Mohave Road. Improvements include new pavement, bringing sidewalk ramps to Americans With Disabilities Act standards, sidewalk, curb and gutter, traffic loops, manholes and water valves, pavement markings and traffic signs. These projects are scheduled to start this month.”
