Family pulled from plane right before explosion

WEST JORDAN, Utah — Three Good Samaritans pulled a family out of a small plane before it burst into flames after the aircraft crashed Sunday morning on a soccer field in a Salt Lake City suburb.

Police say the plane crashed in West Jordan shortly after takeoff from a Salt Lake City area airport.

The pilot, his wife and their adult daughter, all from Boise, Idaho, were taken to the hospital. Their names weren’t immediately released.

Police say the pilot was listed in critical condition, while the conditions of the other two weren’t available.

Witness Robert Kelley told the Deseret News he immediately knew the plane was in trouble because it failed to gain altitude.

The crash of the Piper PA-32 is under investigation by federal authorities.
