It was an evening of great food and entertainment, plus a generous serving of just desserts for the happiest mayor in the universe, Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, during a roast March 14 at Green Valley Ranch to benefit Nevada's Partnership for Homeless Youth.
The nonprofit organization is dedicated to providing services to homeless youths ages 12 to 18. It offers transportation to kids wanting to return home and living quarters to those ages 16 to 18 who are attending school or working full time. It also has a program called Project Safe Place.
Party guests were asked to wear the mayor's favorite color of fuchsia.
Among government officials in attendance were Congresswomen Shelley Berkley and Dina Titus; District Judge Jackie Glass; Councilmen Steve Wolfson, David Steinman and Mike Pacini; Assemblymen Mark Manendo and Marcus Conklin; and City Manager Betsy Fretwell.
Other guests included Mark Fiorentino, Rita Brandin, Tom Fay, Annie McDonald, Linda Swift, Susan and Tom Warden, Sue Sisolak, May Musso, David Chavez, Neil Durrant, Melissa and Ted Olivas, Donna and Patrick Smith, James Campos, Jan Cohen, and Annie and Mike Mullin.
Kathleen Boutin welcomed the 250 guests. Bishop Joseph A. Pepe gave the invocation. KLAS-TV, Channel 8 news anchor Paula Francis served as mistress of ceremonies.
A live auction of four packages conducted by Paul Workman raised $19,150.
The mayor was forced to wear a Brooklyn Dodgers T-shirt and hat while being skewered by the likes of R&R Partners, which presented a comical video roast, "Coffee with Linda Richardson & Friends."
Scorching the mayor were Councilman Gary Reese and County Commissioner Larry Brown. The mayor's wife, Carolyn Goodman, added to the flames by relating secrets of their 47 years of wedded bliss. Terry Murphy concluded the roast by singing an original tribute to the mayor.
Guests enjoying the evening of merriment were the mayor's daughter, Cara, and son, Dr. Oscar Goodman, with Ana Goodman; Diana and Tony Romo, Michael McDonald, Jennifer Simich, Rick McGough, Stephanie Washington, Tod Story, Diana Wilson, Betty Titus, Susan Summers and Tiger Todd.
