HEALTH Q&A: Varying workouts

Q What are the benefits of varying your workout routine?

A As a single mom of six children, I can attest that routine is key to a great day. Routine has its place, but when it comes to workouts, mixing things up is vital. Changing your routine every six weeks eliminates the dreaded plateau, elevates motivation and lessens boredom. Muscles and joints benefit by being used in different ways; too much repetition can create problems. Varying workouts reduces the risk of injuries associated with overtraining, increases overall strength, better sculpts your physique and challenges your body.
