New health website offers tips for planning, advocacy
Health nuts, medical practitioners and the curious now can find more than 100 economic, social and health indicators for Clark County.
The Southern Nevada Health District has created the Healthy Southern Nevada website — www.HealthySouthernNevada.org — offering community health information and population data to planners, policymakers and others to use as a tool for assessments, planning, and health improvement and advocacy efforts.
Health district officials created the site with support from the UNLV schools of nursing and community health sciences, Dignity Health Nevada, the University of Nevada School of Medicine and the United Way of Southern Nevada.
The Healthy Southern Nevada website features a section allowing users to view documented approaches to improving community health and quality of life.
Other tools can help users generate reports, index socioeconomic needs, compare indicators and find health disparities.
The website will help officials complete a Community Health Improvement Plan as part of the health district’s Public Health Accreditation process.
The American Heart Association; Center for Progressive Policy and Practice; Clark County Social Services; Clark County School District; Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco; Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce; March of Dimes; and Nevada HAND also helped with the website.
