BIRD VIEWING PRESERVE WINS AWARD

TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel website, named the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve a 2015 Certificate of Excellence Award winner.

The award honors hospitality-related businesses and attractions that consistently receive outstanding traveler reviews. To qualify, a business must maintain an overall TripAdvisor rating of at least four out of five, have a minimum number of reviews and have been listed on TripAdvisor for at least one year.

The Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve has received an overall 4.5 out of 5 rating to date based on TripAdvisor traveler reviews. It also ranks ninth among the site’s top things to do in Henderson.

CITY WATER PASSES STATE AND FEDERAL STANDARDS

The city of Henderson Department of Utility Services released the 2015 Water Quality Report that shows the city’s drinking water meets or surpasses all state and federal standards.

The report is designed to inform water customers about the quality of the water delivered to their tap. It contains detailed information about where the water comes from, how it is treated and important health information.

Thousands of tests were conducted on water samples collected from three regional water treatment facilities and throughout Henderson’s water distribution system. These samples were analyzed for more than 90 regulated and unregulated substances and met or exceeded safe drinking water standards.

NONPROFIT RECEIVES $80,000 GIFT

The Engelstad Family Foundation recently awarded HopeLink of Southern Nevada with an $80,000 donation for its senior programming.

SeniorLink provides crisis assistance to low-income and impoverished adults 55 or older. The donation is set to support and expand the nonprofit’s senior services next year.

HENDERSON NAMED A PLAYFUL CITY

The city of Henderson was recently named a Playful City USA community for the eighth consecutive year.

The national program honors cities and towns championing efforts to make play a priority for children. The program is administered by KaBoom!, a nonprofit dedicated to saving children’s play, and the Humana Foundation, the philanthropic arm of health care company Humana Inc.

Criteria for the designation includes collaboration among nonprofits, foundations, civic groups, businesses and neighboring cities and towns; demonstrating the support of the mayor and city council on the cause of play; and expressing the ability and commitment to use data to address inequality through infrastructure reinvestment, policy changes and programming.
