Just Like the Real Thing

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death. And, since The King's passing on Aug. 16, 1977, fans haven't lacked for souvenirs by which to remember him.

Now, from The Sharper Image, comes one of the most unusual pieces of Elvis memorabilia we've seen: The Alive Elvis Animatronic Robot.

The 20-inch-high bust, which depicts Elvis as he appeared on the 1968 comeback special, employs infrared sensors, stereo speakers and 10 precision motors to create a moving -- that's right: Elvis' head actually moves as he sings -- replica of Elvis.

Using a microphone-shaped wireless remote, Elvis fans can have the Elvisbot talk -- a "monologue" feature even activates snippets of Elvis talking about his life and times -- or sing. Plug in your own microphone, and you can even sing a duet with him.

The robot, which is authorized by Elvis Presley Enterprises Inc., runs on AC or batteries and retails for $299.95. It's available at select Sharper Image stores, including the one at 2225 Village Walk Drive, Henderson, and through the Sharper Image Web site (www.sharperimage.com).
