Looking to help out a charity? Here are some options
There’s lots of charity news in Las Vegas Friday. Let’s start with the 2nd Annual A Games. It’s a fundraiser billed as an “X Games”-style event for children on the autism spectrum.
The A Games will kick off May 17 at Sport Social, 7055 Windy St., hosted by Las Vegas skateboarding hero TJ Lavin.
Participants can take part in two of eight events, which includes a bike race, a skateboard race, a scooter race, a bike trick competition, skateboard trick competitions, a rock wall climb, a scooter trick competition, and a parkour obstacle course.
This benefits Families for Effective Autism Treatment.
Next up: The intriguingly named “Motorcycles and Mutts Poker Run” will take place April 11 to raise money and awareness for the AnimalFoundation.com.
Basically, this is a poker-bar crawl ($35 per driver/$10 per guest rider) for bikers, starting at 7 a.m. at Sierra Gold, 6515 S. Jones Blvd., and leading to the Pahrump Nugget, the Red Rock loop, PT’s Gold, 3770 S. Hualapai Way, Sean Patrick’s Pub & Grill, 11930 Southern Highlands Pkwy., and PT’s Ranch, 2430 E. Pebble, ending with a cookout and raffle.
Your question is: Uh, are dogs going to be riding with bikers on a 7 a.m. pub crawl?
Answer: I couldn’t get an exact answer by deadline, although none of us thinks a dog can ride on a bike unless the pooch is in a side car. But even then? What kind of crazy person would put a dog on a moving bike during an early morning bar crawl?
And finally, Friday night is the big night for Cirque du Soleil’s annual charity event, One Drop, and this year’s featured performance is by John Legend.
Legend and 100-plus Cirque art-athletes will perform choreographed artistry designed for this one night, which raises money for One Drop’s programs to get water to people in need of water around the world. Tickets cost $100-$1,500.
